Library Exhibits
The Merrimac Public Library has exhibition space available to artists, craftspeople, sculptors and organizations engaged in educational, recreational, cultural, civic or charitable activities. The library provides an attractive, spacious, light-filled area where artwork and objects of interest can be enjoyed by all.
Available Exhibit Areas
For two dimensional work there are hanging systems:
- In the main lobby, the walls behind the main desk and the adjacent walls on both sides and the area above the two computers to the right as you face the main desk for paintings, photographs and other framed items that are under 30" x 32".
- In the large meeting room which is accessible through the library and also through a separate entrance for two dimensional art larger than 30" x 32" and also three dimensional art. Opening receptions are welcome in this space.
For three dimensional work the following are available:
- A large locked glass case next to the main desk.
- A table size locked glass case in the area next to the children’s section.
- A large locked glass wall display across from the table case.
- Floor and outdoor space (contingent upon approval from the Library Director and Trustees).
Exhibit/Display Policy
The Merrimac Library welcomes exhibitions of paintings, photographs, crafts, sculpture, and other art works in so far as space permits. The library’s exhibit and display spaces are available to artists and organizations engaged in educational, recreational, cultural, civic or charitable activities. Commercial goods and services of interest to the local community may also be displayed at the discretion of the Library Director, contingent upon available space and the demonstrated needs of the community.
The library does not ask for a percentage of the sale if artwork is sold but always welcomes a donation, which is at the discretion of the artist.
The Library does not endorse the beliefs or viewpoints of topics that may be the subject of exhibits and displays. Collection “cans” for the purpose of collecting cash is not allowed in the Library. The Library Director reviews proposals for exhibits and displays if questions arise concerning acceptance criteria. The Library reserves the right to refuse any exhibit or display proposal.
The library assumes no responsibility for the preservation, protection, or possible damage or theft of any item displayed. All items placed in the library are done so at the owner’s risk. Artists are asked to sign an Artist Waiver Agreement Form.
Exhibits are displayed for 30 – 60 days. Exhibitors can work with the Exhibit Coordinator to decide on the best times to set up and take down their display.
