1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Reading Program for Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers
The Merrimac Public Library is excited to offer families an ongoing, easy, fun and free literacy program called 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. Stop by the children’s room and check out our program display or use our curbside pick-up service to receive your starter packet. The process is simple: Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler, then color in a circle on the paper reading log.
The goal of the program is to have read 1,000 books before your little one starts kindergarten. We encourage reading the same book several times – and each reading of the book counts! Your child will receive a sticker and bookmark each time he/she completes a 100 book log and turns it in; at 500 books read he/she will get to choose a free book, and after reaching the 1000 books milestone he/she will receive a book bag and certificate!
