We've officially moved in to the 21st century, or thereabouts.

Hello. You've just reached the official blog of the Merrimac Public Library. Why would a library have a blog? you may be asking yourself. That's a very good question. First and foremost, though, we should cover what a blog actually is.

A blog (short for web log) is comparable to an online newsletter or journal. It allows the public a new level of interaction with the library that is otherwise not possible. Traditional websites are one-way streets: lots of information coming at you, but you don't really have a way to respond. A blog provides an avenue for each and every person who visits the website to have a voice. Now on to the question of why. Recently, the library sent out a survey to all residents of Merrimac asking their opinions of library services and what we can do to serve our community better. The results are still being tallied, but suffice to say that the response greatly exceeded our expectations. The level of communication the survey offered inspired the creation of this blog so that you don't have to wait another five years to say what you think of the library. You can do that any time, 24/7 from any place in the world with an internet connection. Of course, chances are if you're that far away, you aren't using the library that much anyhow. But still, the option is there.
